Baptism

A public declaration of faith and new life in Christ

What is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and your new life as a follower of Christ. When you are baptized, you are publicly declaring your faith and commitment to Jesus.

"Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Romans 6:4

Why Should I Get Baptized?

To Follow Christ's Example

Jesus himself was baptized and set an example for us to follow. By being baptized, you're following in His footsteps.

"At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan." - Mark 1:9

To Demonstrate Your Faith

Baptism is a public declaration of your faith in Jesus Christ. It shows others that you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior.

"Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven." - Matthew 10:32

To Symbolize New Life

Going under the water represents the burial of your old life; coming up from the water symbolizes your new life in Christ.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be baptized to be saved?

Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Baptism is an act of obedience that follows salvation. While baptism is an important step of obedience for a believer, it is not a requirement for salvation.

What if I was baptized as an infant?

At Woodland Park Baptist Church, we practice believer's baptism, which means we baptize those who have made a personal decision to follow Christ. If you were baptized as an infant before making this decision, we encourage you to consider being baptized as a believer to publicly declare your personal faith.

What should I wear for baptism?

We provide baptismal robes for everyone being baptized. We recommend wearing dark-colored shorts and a t-shirt underneath the robe. We also suggest bringing a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for wet items.

Can my family and friends attend my baptism?

We encourage you to invite family and friends to witness your baptism. It's a wonderful opportunity to share your faith with loved ones and celebrate this important step in your spiritual journey.

What age do you baptize children?

We baptize children who have made a personal decision to follow Jesus and understand the meaning of baptism. We typically recommend children be at least 7 years old, but this can vary depending on the child's understanding. For children interested in baptism, we offer a special class to help them understand this important step.
